Specialists within the program act as liaisons between local hospitals and EMS providers for:
UPMC Prehospital Care brings together the educational resources of the University of Pittsburgh and the clinical resources of UPMC. This partnership helps public safety organizations in unique ways, providing up-to-date clinical and management education, expanded-scope prehospital medical protocols, and revenue-generating patient care opportunities. The health system’s network of specialty and community hospitals makes seamless delivery of care possible. Because EMS agencies play an important role in ensuring patient access to these services, UPMC offers integrated protocols, policies, and procedures to public safety organizations. High-quality emergency care is as close as the nearest UPMC hospital. The health system operates the region’s premier Level I adult trauma center, a designation that enables UPMC to treat patients with the most serious injuries. A close relationship with Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, which operates the region’s only Level I pediatric trauma center, means that both adults and children can get the most skilled trauma care in the region without being routed to separate locations.
